ASI recently
sent an assessment team to the center for the earthquake zone
to evaluate an appropriate means of response
On Wednesday, May 21, ASI personnel entered
Chengdu, the closest city to the 7.9 earthquake that has claimed
a over 40,000 lives since May 12. Their mandate was to assess
the needs of the people from the region most affected by the
earthquake and to establish if we could assist in any way.
During their time in Chengdu, they toured Mianyang and Dujiangyan,
two of the hardest-hit regions. They distributed food on the
street and visited a refugee site in Mianyang. The damage is
extensive, but the response has been impressive. The China
Red Cross and the military have provided an efficient and organized
response to the overwhelming needs. All organized relief work
is channelled through the China Red Cross.
At this time, Asia SPAN will receive all funds marked "China
Crisis" into an account that will be directed to the China Red Cross for:
· Food and water supplies
· Tents and shelters for the homeless (an estimated 5 million are
homeless)
· Medical supplies
Please give generously to support the massive aide effort directed
by the Red Cross and thousands of other agencies from around
the world. Click

Crisis".

In the coming weeks, Asia SPAN will be looking
into further partnerships with other agencies to address additional
needs, such as:
· Shelter and food for displaced peoples in
less-affected regions
· Orphan care (specifically education)
· Counselling and care for those dealing with the loss of loved
ones.
Please continue to pray for those affected by this tragedy.
