James, Rebecca and their team of 8 came from
Alberta this summer to participate in the 2008 Olympic initiative
that ASI has been coordinating since 2007. Unlike many other
short term missions endeavors that were set during that time,
the teams that were set to present Olympic based English curriculum
to universities, English training centers and kids summer camps
continued in spite of heightened security and increased mandatory "deportations" of missionaries and missions agencies.
"It was an incredible experience
to see the students open up to us and invite us into their lives
even though we were only there for 2 weeks", commented Rebecca. When asked what her most favourite moment was in the entire
trip, she said, "sharing the love of Jesus with kids who have no idea who He is".
Short term missions such as the Olympic project
provide a lasting impact to the missions work in restricted access
countries by serving as a launching pad for future national partnerships
as well as being a primary catalyst for new long term works.
